Facts & Myths about Aluminium Doors & Windows

Aluminium is light weight, high-strength & versatile in nature and due to these properties, it has been in use in the construction industry for decades. In today’s world, doors and windows made with high-grade aluminium are structurally the strongest types of frames available in the market. Despite that, there are many myths that surround aluminium doors and windows that are prevalent.

1. ALUMINIUM IS NOT STYLISH

Aluminium doors and windows are available in several varieties of shades, patterns and styles. Earlier, though, aluminium used to be only available in white or silver colour with hardwood finish. But now-a-days, different colours are available and powder coating technologies are enabling all possible colour options and you can choose between glossy and matte finish as well.

2. ALUMINIUM DOES NOT OFFER INSULATION

It is true that aluminium doors and windows do not support chamber-style insulation as in uPVC frames; but they have multiple thermal breaks integrated into them. These breaks create small bridges or spaces between the interior and exterior face of the panes. Being a poor conductor, air in these spaces prevent heat from escaping, thus making your doors and windows thermally insulated and energy efficient.

3. ALUMINIUM DOORS AND WINDOWS ARE NOT COMPATIBLE WITH VINTAGE BUILDINGS

Aluminium doors and windows offer a frame depth choice. This feature makes aluminium frames ideal for building home extensions or replacing old windows in traditional buildings. Aluminium frames also look excellent with almost all kinds of hardwood or stone sub-frames and mullions

4. ALUMINIUM HAS LOW CO-EFFICIENT OF THERMAL EXPANSION

Aluminium, unlike other metals, is highly stable and minor temperature changes do not affect an aluminium frame’s natural state. When installed with thermal breaks, they are even less likely to expand or contract.

5. ALUMINIUM WINDOWS ARE DIFFICULT TO MAINTAIN

Since aluminium is a metal, many people think that it will rust, corrode, or get damaged due to weather. But in reality, aluminium does not react with elements and has almost zero maintenance needs. It is termite resistant, weather resistant, and does not support growth of insects and pests. You don’t even need to paint your aluminium doors and windows to keep them safe from corrosion, like iron. Despite it is a metal, it does not rot, peel or flake, due to which it is a popular choice for outside exposure.

6. ALUMINIUM IS NOT ECO-FRIENDLY

Aluminium doors and windows can also save you energy making you more eco-friendly and energy-efficient. With windows that are designed to promote a minimal production of carbon dioxide in gas heated homes, you can save up-to 30% on your energy cost. Also, aluminium is the most recyclable of all metals around the world, which also promotes a cleaner and healthier environment.

7. ALUMINIUM WINDOWS CAUSE CONDENSATION

Modern-day aluminium doors and windows do not cause any extra condensation. Aluminium has the same level of thermal insulation as wood and uPVC – the only two strong contenders of door and window frames in the market. Though, it must be pointed out that, condensation depends on a lot of external factors and we cannot completely eradicate the same from our lives.

8. ALUMINIUM WINDOWS ARE NOT STRONG

Aluminium has the most robust structural integrity than all other metals in the world. Owing to its impact-resistant properties, aluminium can carry heavy loads and maintains the dimensions and tightness of your door and window frames effortlessly. Modern-day aluminium doors and windows are also equipped with excellent multi-point locking systems and toughened glass to enhance the overall security measures of your homes and offices.
