Description

Silicon metal is a grey and shiny semiconductor metal, also known as crystalline silicon or industrial silicon, and is mainly used as an additive for non-ferrous alloys. Silicon metal is produced from quartz and coke in an electric furnace, and the content of the silicon element is about 98% (in recent years, with a content of 99.99%, Si is also called silicon metal), and the other impurities are mainly iron, aluminium, calcium, and so on. The classification of metallic silicon is according to the content of iron, aluminium, and calcium; silicon metal can be divided into different grades such as 553, 441, 411, 3303, 2202, and 1101.

Uses of Silicon metal 97 :
Currently, in the smelting process of aluminium ingots and special steel, the use of silicon metal 97 as a smelting material has become normal. Silicon metal 97 is also called off-grade silicon and industrial silicon, which is a non-ferrous alloy additive. Usually, the main raw materials required for the production of silicon metal 97 are silica and semi-choke, which are made by heating and smelting the raw materials in an electric furnace. Silicon metal 97 is rich in silicon, up to 98.99%, so it can play a better role in the production of aluminium ingots and special steel.

The main purpose of silicon metal is as an additive, as a non-iron-based alloy. The content of silicon in the earth's crust is 27.7%, the second largest element in the earth's crust. The most abundant elements in the earth's crust – oxygen and silicon – combine to silica, SiO2, which accounts for 87% of the total mass of the crust. Silicon is a nonmetallic element, that is grey, metallic colour, hard, and brittle. Atomic weight is 28.80; density is 2.33g/m3; the melting point is 1410℃; the boiling point is 2355℃; resistivity is 2140Ω.m. Semiconductor silicon, which uses for the production of the semiconductor devices, is a high purity silicon metal, with polycrystalline and monocrystalline forms.
 

Purpose of Silicon Metal:
1. Use for Al alloy product: could be added in aluminium alloys, to enhance the strength of the alloy, increase its anti-oxidation and corrosion resistance, decrease its density and coefficient of thermal expansion, meliorate its casting performance, and make the alloy have high impact resistance and pressure resistance.

2. Used for cold-rolled silicon steel product: After adding silicon metal in steel, it could greatly improve the magnetic properties of steel, increase its permeability, reducing the hysteresis and eddy current losses.

3. Use for high-purity semiconductor products: Due to the high melting point of silicon, good thermal stability, large band gap, and rich in resources, with technology has been improving, integrated circuits and large-scale integrated circuits made from silicon semiconductors have been used in various fields, the demand is growing up year by year.

4. Use for organic silicon products: silicone, silicon resin, and silicone oil Silicone: which maintains flexibility in the range of-700℃ to 2000℃, could be used for high-temperature gaskets and cold insulation materials. Silicon resin: For the production of insulating paint, heat temperature of 180 ~ 2000℃, can also be used for the production of high-temperature coatings. Silicone oil: For the production of senior lubricant, polishing agent, fluid spring, and dielectric liquid, also could be processed into a colourless transparent liquid, and sprayed on the building for waterproofing. Silicon metal is more and more widely used in organic silicon industry, the usage amount tends to exceed the aluminium alloy industry.

5. Use for the heat-resisting material product: For the production of Si3N4, heat-resistant, wear-resistant, and corrosion-resistant. Making the coated material can prevent oxidation. Siliconized steel surfaces can improve the corrosion resistance of the steel.
